DDS fic, new icon, ramblage
I'm relearning how to write. That might sound stupid, but I realised that before my graduation ceremony, I'd spent a good six months plus without writing a single word of fiction, which has not happened since I was ten and got my first computer and when I was writing that FFXII fic I realised that holy crap I've actually forgotten how I write. The FFXII fic only happened because the language of the game took over my brain and it pretty much wrote itself. In general, I've found that phrases don't come quite so easily any more, I've forgotten where I was going with half of my fics, and I just started work on Storms again and oh god, making Gaara talk is hard. I remember why I stopped writing it now.

I'm also attempting to write DDS and failing. One thing that bugged me as a I went through the first DDS game was this: when did Serph's eyes change? It wasn't until I noticed the emphasis that's always placed on the eyes changing that I realised Serph never had one of those, and yet although his eyes are silvery, they've also always had pupils (which is the other way you can tell when their self has "woken", as it were, since the non-woken characters have no pupils), so did I just miss it? I didn't restart until I'd finished the game (which is quite frankly WEIRD for me) so it took me a while to get around to it. But. When I restarted the game. Serph's eyes are already changed when the gang wakes up after the first FMV/om-nom-nom session.

Which just sparked off a whole hell of a lot of "holy crap, is Serph actually even more fucked up than he's presented?", because by that point I was in the Airport in the second game, and knew all about what happened with the first Serph and how his infection with the demon virus meant a violent killing spree as well, except that the gist I got from the game was that the trigger is something to do with strong emotion related to the person they were that either clicks with the person they are now, or works as a sort of epiphany. I may be making that last bit up. But. It made me write some fic.

Knowledge

There is blood in his mouth.

Rich and coppery, it coats his tongue and breathes at the back of his throat. The taste is familiar, known; but Serph has never tasted blood before, has never had an injury that would mean he could know it. He has never been so close to his enemies that blood has clung to his fingers, squelched in the grooves near his knuckles, yet the feeling is so familiar he does not need to look to know that his hands will be stained red and black.

He doesn’t want to open his eyes, but he knows the sounds in his ears is the sound of rain and not surf on a beach – how can it be? He’s never seen a “beach” – and his tribe need him. He pushes himself up, sees Gale and Argilla, and there are two voices in his head and he knows/doesn’t know them likes/doesn’t care about them sees a tool/sees a friend on and on until he blinks and it stops.

Cielo calls to him, so he rises and follows his voice. There’s a girl in the hole in the ground, and Heat’s is both calmer and more agitated than Serph has ever seen him.

Something’s changed, he knows, and at the same time nothing has.

Fic is not finished. Fic is, however, kicking my butt and I wanna get on with writing Storms. Therefore fic gets put here and thus can be ignored. :D
