Fic: Crisis Core: Eruption
Oh man, I love Crisis Core. The DMW drives me crazy but it's still so much fun. Have a DMW-inspired drabble - spoilers for Modeoheim. (Just finished Nibelheim in Crisis Core, too. Mwehe. T.T)

Eruption

Zack always thought that “Digital Mind Wave” was the coolest name ever for his ... rather unique ... form of Limit. It fitted, too – he’d meet someone, something would click, and it was like he’d be channelling a part of them in his fights from then on.

The thing was, sometimes it gave him an insight into this new person, and not always one he expected. Take Cloud. He’d known the guy, what, thirty seconds? when he felt something click in his head the way the DMW always did. He was kinda curious to see what channelling Cloud would bring, and he got his wish less than half an hour later when he found himself raining down meteors on Genesis clones, annihilating the lot of them.

Landing back on his feet and staring at the carnage with wide eyes, Zack could only whistle softly. If that was what he did when channelling Cloud, he’d hate to think what Cloud would be like once he got over his self-doubt or got SOLDIER enhancements, whichever came first.

Because that kid? Volcano. Definitely.

	XD I don't normally try to make sense of in-game mechanics in fic (exercise in futility, anyone?) but the DMW just screamed for something like this. Plus, Meteorain! I loved that Limit in FF7. XD Thanks for the comment! (Reply to this) (Parent)

The DMW comes from the PSP FFVII: Crisis Core game, so it was kinda retconned in. It doesn't clash as much as the other stuff Squenix retconned in, though, since Zack is the only person who seems to use it, so, yeeeeeeah. Doesn't matter much post-Crisis Core timeline stuff. It does dominate Crisis Core gameplay, though, because it governs levelling.

I've been trying to find a decent explanation of DMW on the web and the closest I've come is this - not a complete guide, but explains the basics. I wouldn't worry too much about DMW, though - I seem to be one of the few authors who actually likes the DMW, so if you're just in it for the fic it shouldn't matter much. :D
