Went to Roz's today for a barbecue. It was a very good day, but there was one WTF moment when I realised Roz's cousin was flirting with me.

This was a WTF moment because when I have met this cousin before and I happen to know she is straight. Not gay, not bisexual. Totally straight. So, yes. WTF.

You know, I miss you like burning. I am also just terrible at keeping up with people!

P.S. Are you on DW? If not, would you like to be?

Good burning, or bad STD-type burning? :P Ditto on the missing you and the being terrible at keeping up with people. I do miss the lj peeps, if not the farcical lj "customer service".

I am having a very stupid day, however, so please forgive the stupid question: what is DW?

Dreamwidth Studios (http://www.dreamwidth.org/). It's an lj clone, newly into open beta. I know you've already got a journal going here, but I thought you might be intrigued by DW's guiding principles (http://www.dreamwidth.org/legal/principles) and diversity statement (). It's specifically set up to be a sustainable business that does *not* resort to third-party advertising, instead generating revenue only from the services provided to the users. It's been set up by some former lj staff (http://synecdochic.livejournal.com/226141.html), and there's kind of a huge fannish drive behind it (http://wiki.dwscoalition.org/notes/Why_Dreamwidth), though it's not fan-only. If you're interested, I've got spare invite codes.

Man, what a sales pitch! I swear, I'm not on a payroll. ^__~ I just remembered your frustrations with lj and thought that this sounded up your alley! Plus, hey, it would be awesome to share a blog service with you again. I think that DW is also intended to be set up for easy cross-posting between lj-code based services (either right now or planned for the future, I'm not sure).

I'm Jadey (http://jadey.dreamwidth.org/) over there.

This sounds veeeeery interesting. I had heard that lj tried to fix their stupidity and start thinking about the people using the site again instead of just the people who want to advertise on it, but I still didn't want to go back to lj because it's changed too much - it feels too much like a company allowing me to be there, rather than a place I am that happens to be run by a company. Does that make sense?

Anyway. Yes. DW sounds like they're coming from a good place, and I would be interested in giving them a try! :D My email addy's changed, so if you want to give me an invite code send it to anria@solelyfictional.org.

Man, I haven't heard anything about an lj reprieve. They sold to a Russian company and laid off half the US staff, and then got rid of the free no-ad accounts, and just... yeah. I'm very entrenched there with a lot of RL friends, but I archive on a regular basis and I'm ready to skip town should the barricades come down.

Hence, DW! My fannish rebirth. ^__^ Invite sent.

I think it was something to do with changing their views on adult content, or something like that - to be honest, I didn't pay much attention so all I have is a vague memory of them saying "sorry, we'll try not to be such dicks." Or words to that effect. And then they sell the site to the Russians (thereby ensuring that all of the spam to my old email address was in Russian - seriously, I miss spam about enlarging my non-existent penis) and cover the whole site with ads.

I've made an account on DW - still almighty_frog, because I'm just that imaginative - and I love how my interests list shows that nobody else listed d.grayman, a fairly popular manga licensed by Tokyopop, but a decent number of people are interested in some particularly obscure j-rpg games. XD
