More about Crisis Core...

Just finished Crisis Core. Cut for spoilers. )

I has an Albert!

So in my last post I mentioned how I have a PSP now. It has been christened Albert, largely to stop my mother referring to it was "pusp". "Pusp" sounds like a skin disease, and is therefore not suitable for lovely, shiny Albert.

Anyway - I've been playing Crisis Core for a while now, and having great fun. I had a surreal moment when I first heard Zack speak, though, since I'd just been playing FFX-2 and immediately thought, "Why is Gippal in FF7?"

One thing I absolutely love about Crisis Core, though, is how they've included/updated music from the original FF7 and stuck it in wherever they can. It makes it so much more of a love song to the fans, while still being a good game with very good music for the newbies - it also gives things more of a haunting air, like how the background music in the Shinra building changes to the one from FF7 partway through the game, as if to say, "Here, this is what happened to make Shinra into the one you know from FF7 and not the happy-shiny-bouncy Zack kind." WAAAAH.

Plus nothing tops a half-naked Zack beating the crap out of things with a beach umbrella. Nothing.

(The end sequence to those missions, though, is really sad. It says a lot about Zack's character, only I'm not sure it's a good "lot".)

Off to play more... :D Also: HAPPY NEW YEAR! (And merry Christmas, too, since I forgot to add that previously.)

Bleh.

So I've realised that I have this thing about my writing.

I don't like it.

Or at least, I don't like it for longer than a day or so, by which time I'll be going back over something I've written to make sure I know where I'm picking it up, and by the time I get to the next bit of white space that needs filling I'll be doing that half-frown pout-thing which I'm told makes me look like a constipated kitten, and I'll have so many critiques in my head that I won't write anything.

That's part of why I decided to just finish the DDS fic and post it, regardless of the fact that I didn't end up making it Heat/Serph like I wanted to. I can see how I could do a sequel/similar fic in which I could add the Heat/Serph, buuuut ... meh.

---

On a ligher note, I now have a PSP and have been playing Crisis Core. Whee! 'Tis fun! Just met Cloud! Unfortunately, it gets very repetitive very quickly - most of the levelling is done via the sidequest missions, which are all "navigate this route and kill something". So far, however, the story is looking like it could slot into the original FF7 background without too much ret-conning, which I wasn't expecting. Shall wait and see.

My internet is on the fritz and may die again sometime within the next thirty seconds. Also, I am finding it deeply amusing how it will let me onto FF.Net and insanejournal, but not BBC News. Or my email. That bit is less amusing.

I have, however, been watching Merlin. (For those not in the know, this is a BBC TV series wherein Merlin is the same age as Arthur and somehow ends up being his manservant - stop sniggering - in a Camelot where magic is punishable by death and Guinevere is the blacksmith's daughter, in love with Merlin, and wants to be called Gwen. I make none of this up.) It is bizarrely good, and I am somewhat bemused that the closest I have come to a fic that properly summarises the Merlin/Arthur relationship for me is a fratboy!AU. Although what that says about the show I don't know.

Anyway! The entire flipping series is on the BBC website for online viewing here. You have fifteen days left. There's only one more episode, which will air next Saturday, so get cracking!

Edit: AHAHAHAHAHA I GOT FF7 TO WORK ON THE LAPTOP. TAKE THAT, VISTA!

Mmm, italics.

Dammit. There has to be someone, somewhere who has actually written decent Sephiroth/Cloud. I refuse to believe that all the stuff on the internet is crap. Despite all the evidence to the contrary.

My internet connection is also flaky like a flaky thing, and this maaaaay be contributing to my irritation. Just a little. Maybe.

Furthermore, the overabundance of godawful Sephiroth/Cloud makes me want to write FF7 past!fic and/or timefuck!fic, with the intention of going some way to balancing the crap with something good. Except that I don't like over 95% of what I've written, so this is clearly not a sensible course of action, because I would have to give up all hope of ever finding a decent S/C fic and go live in a cave with moss in my hair.

For some reason, this isn't preventing me from attempting to write decent Larsa/Penelo. Possibly because I haven't been failing in my search for good L/P for quite as long. There's only so much FF7 badfic I can take.
